A World of Her Own

As a realtor, she had a sharp eye for a home's potential — she'd already had us design another unit she'd bought. But this one was different. This one was hers: a place meant not to sell, but to tell her story, and to be somewhere she genuinely wanted to spend her time.

That's the one thing a good eye can't always do for itself. She knew what she liked; what she wanted from us was the rest — the functionality and the look, brought together into something cohesive and complete. And the place needed it. A small, older condo, it had a cramped layout, a half bath where a full one belonged, dated finishes, and little of the bold, well-traveled, art-loving woman who lived there.

So we reworked it from the inside out. We converted the powder room into a full bath, rethought the kitchen, and carved out a small, smart office-and-guest space the floor plan didn't know it had. At one end, we set skylights to bring in the natural light she'd been wanting. New flooring ran throughout, and a glamorous black-and-gold palette gave the rooms the drama her old place had always lacked.

Then we layered in her personality. Champagne-bronze and gold tones run like a thread through the home — in the fixtures, the lighting, the hardware — set against dramatic black walls and a black backsplash that make a small space feel rich and intentional rather than cramped. That boldness carries into the bathrooms. The new full bath, created from the old powder room, is a jewel of its own — walls of richly varied green tile with a handmade look, a black-and-white chevron shower, and champagne-bronze fittings — while the second bath layers warm geometric tile and the same champagne-bronze fixtures into something that feels like a high-end hotel. In the bedroom, which we furnished completely, a channel-tufted headboard, globe pendants, gold-on-gold layers, and a glamorous capiz-shell dresser set a tone that's unmistakably elevated. And throughout, the art and objects from a life of travel — a sculptural metal world map spanning one black wall among them — finally have a home that frames them the way they deserve.

The footprint never changed. Everything else did. What had been a small, anonymous condo became a jewel box — glamorous, worldly, and uniquely, completely her. A home, at last, she can't wait to spend time in.
